Prose-Poems and Selections from the Writings and Sayings of Robert G. Ingersoll

New York: C. P. Farrell, 1892. 5th or later Edition. Hardcover. Expanded fifth edition of a collection of selections from the writing and oratory of Robert Ingersoll. The preface declares "The publisher alone is responsible for the selection of material in this volume. It has required no special skill to include the well-known orations and tributes which have become classic; but the real difficulty, where there is so much to choose from, has been to exclude. For the present, the publisher contents himself with this collection, which he hopes will be welcomed by the real friends of intellectual freedom." Previous owner's mark on the free endpaper, "Grace L. Macdonald". This is possibly (but only possibly) Grace Leland Macdonald (1866-1945), suffragist and widow of free thinker George E. Macdonald. Wear to the extremities of the beveled green cloth covers, with fraying to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges starting. All edges gilt. Frontispiece portrait with tissue guard, 384pp. Slight toning throughout. Very Good. Item #2024-Q56
