A biography of the Irish politician Henry Grattan (1746-1820), written by the Irish Home League politician John George MacCarthy, then a member of parliament. A brief note explains that "The following pages have been published at the suggestion of some members of the Grattan Monument Committee, in the hope of promoting and popularizing knowledge of the subject". Grattan is presented as a figure admired by Irish people of any religious or political allegiance. Followed by an advertisement for the third editoin MacCarthy's own "Plea for the Home Government of Ireland", price one shilling, with opinions of the press. An inscription on the half title page reads "presented by the author". Green cloth covers, gilt title and border on the front boards, corresponding blind stamped border on the rear boards. Beveled edges. Wear and slight loss of cloth to extremities. All edges gilt. Slight foxing to early pages. [viii], 81, [3]pp. 8.75 x 5.75" Very Good. Item #2024-Q239
