The Green Book of Golf 1923-1924

San Francisco, California: Leighton Press, 1924. Hardcover. "Twenty years ago golf was played by few and scoffed at by many. Today it is an inseparable paet of our lives. America, and particularly Caifornia, is the golfing playground off the Universe. The Green Book of Golf aims to be your daily golf guide. The record of every important tournament is presented to you in detail. Every golfer in these parts is given a rating..." (p. 5). Not far in the past, golf was a game only played by the affluent, and on their private courses. This book provides a directory of California's private courses of the time, the members of the clubs and their handicaps and the competitions scheduled for them, with pages are devoted to the professional golfers and their tournaments which the club members enjoyed attending. Many relevant advertisements are included, with the final page devoted to the printers of the volume. A wonderful glimpse into California a century ago. Overall Fair. The interior of the volume is clean, the hinges and text block are sound and square, the exterior leaves a little to be desired, limp leather is extensively sunned (and no longer green), separation at top of front and rear joints, with some loss of leather. Please view the photos. Measures 10.5" by 7", [1-2] 3-534pp. Scarce in the trade and very few to auction over the recent past. Fair. Item #JE19
