Leica Photography
1934. Hardcover. Forty-two issues of the magazine 'Leica Photography' published in New York, bound in three sturdy volumes. These offer wonderful documentation of the early twentieth-century photography, with advertisements, announcements of new technology, correspondence and, of course, photographs. These early issues include the magazine's first color covers (May 1937). During the period when these magazines were printed Ernst Leitz II used the New York offices as a key part of his 'Leica Freedom Train', providing paperwork to Jewish refugees describing them as employees assigned to overseas offices, and then using the magazine's connections to find them jobs in America. The three volumes contain: 1934-35 (with the subtitle 'Advance News of Leica Progress'), No. 18 (May 1934) - No. 37 (Dec 1935) (Missing No. 21); No. 38 (Jan 1936) - No. 49 (Dec 1936) with index for the year; Vol VI, No. 2 (Feb 1937) - No. 12 (Dec 1937) with index for the year. Very Good. Item #2022-M148
