Santa Barbara: El Mochuelo Gallery, 1964. Hardcover. 13"x11.5". A beautifully printed collection of photographs, selected by Callahan and reproduced using 300-line screen offset process on Warren's Offset Enamel paper by the Meriden Gravure Company. The collection is included by Andrew Roth in 'The Book of 101 Books: Seminal Photographic Books of the Twentieth Century'. From the introduction by Hugo Weber: '[Callahan] also comes up with refinements of vision which makes one wonder whether if he might be the reincarnation of Hokusai. He makes you think he invented those leaves of grass all by himself. What puzzles me, is why he prints his photographs so dark. I think he does it to make you look twice, wanting to highlight the essence of his vision.' Limited edition of 1500 copies. Hardcover in black boards with slipcase. Bright silver titles on front cover and spine. Offsetting on hinges from publisher's glue, as in most copies. Fine in a near fine slipcase. Fine. Item #2022-M140
