Bartender's Guide

Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1947. Sullivan, Ray. Hardcover. 7.5x4.5". Early edition of Trader Vic's guide. Born in San Francisco, Trader Vic (or Victor Jules Bergeron Jr) founded a chain of Tiki-themed bars and claimed to have invented the Mai Tai. The many reprints and revised editions are still widely-used. A fantastic piece of bartending history. From the dust jacket: 'Writing in a style as pungent as one of his own Gin Slings, Vic also includes several chapters of advice for bartenders, covering both the joys and the perils of bartending, how to be a good host, and how to handle guests who can't handle your drinks.' Dust jacket in mylar sleeve, chipping on corners, head and tail of spine, light edge-wear, two corners clipped (see photo). Yellow cloth wrapper in fine condition, light discoloration of edges of text block, pages 74-78 dogeared. Binding is tight. Very Good / Fair. Item #2022-M118
