George Redway, 1884. Hardcover. The Anatomy of Tobacco is Machen's (later pen-name of Arthur Llewellyn Jones) second work, writing under the pseudonym Leolinus Siluriensis. Machen is best known for his later writings in fantasy and horror fiction. Description: 8vo. 86 pp., plus two pages of advertisements for publisher's other publications. Vellum over boards, red printed title to cover, no writing to spine. Blue-gray endpapers, page gatherings of alternating sizes, several small diagrams. Condition: Boards are bowed as is typical from older vellum, red titles are slightly rubbed, spine and corners are rubbed, spotted discoloration to front and rear of boards. Prior owner's ex-libris to front paste-down, possibly later owner's name to ffep, possibly first owner's name very neatly printed on title page dated May 1886, edges of endpapers are worn and chipped, front hinge is starting, some glue residue to front endpapers, text has rare spotting but is largely very good. A good+ copy considering age and binding design. Good / No Jacket. Item #2020-K5
